Why Responsible Home Owners Choose
American Heritage Insurance Group
You Get a Home Insurance Specialist,
Not a Generalist
Our dedicated insurance advisors know exactly what Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky homeowners worry about most — being underinsured, facing skyrocketing premiums, dealing with confusing policy language, and struggling with claims after wind, hail, water, or storm damage. At American Heritage Insurance Group, we specialize in building proper replacement-cost policies that truly protect your home’s full rebuild value, not just market price, while explaining everything so you never feel overwhelmed.
We Shop All Providers on Your Behalf
As an independent agency, we shop multiple top-rated carriers so you don’t have to. We analyze your home’s actual rebuild cost, identify coverage gaps (such as sewer backup, equipment breakdown, or ordinance/law), and build a policy that protects you against underinsurance, rising premiums, and common claim denials — giving you confidence instead of worry.
Personal Claims Support When Disaster Strikes
No 1-800 numbers. You’ll work directly with a local advisor who knows your name and is available when you need clear answers. We help you navigate the biggest homeowner worries — confusing policies, claim denials, underinsurance, and slow payouts — with personal guidance from start to finish.
Over 20 Years Protecting Homes
We’ve helped thousands of Tri-State families successfully navigate claims after storms, water damage, fires, and other losses — fighting to avoid underpayments, denials, and the stress of being underinsured. With clear communication and strong advocacy, we turn overwhelming situations into fair outcomes so you can rebuild and move forward with confidence.

- Other Structures Covers detached garages, sheds, fences, driveways, and other buildings on your property (typically 10% of dwelling coverage).
- Personal Property Protects your furniture, clothing, electronics, appliances, and other belongings both inside your home and away from it (usually 50–70% of dwelling coverage).

Real Protection. Real Results. Real Peace of Mind
Protecting families and homes across Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky with access to multiple quality carriers.
The team at AHIG have done a fantastic job for me and my family. They have outstanding knowledge of the available products and work with many top tier carriers. I am very comfortable that we have the right insurances in place. Further, they work extra hard to ensure we get a fair price for the coverage. I have recommended many people to AHIG and will continue to do so. All of them have been pleased.

Not for nothing does their masthead read: WE LISTEN. WE UNDERSTAND. NO WORRIES. Let us take care of it. These folks — Mike Rice, and especially our usual point person, Sara Wallace — have been terrific, going out of their way to save us worry and money in some difficult situations!

Frequently Asked Home Insurance Questions
What Does a Standard Homeowners Insurance Policy Cover?
Most policies (often called HO-3) include six main coverage types:
- Dwelling — Pays to repair or rebuild your home and attached structures (foundation, roof, wiring, plumbing, HVAC).
- Other Structures — Detached garage, fences, sheds, gazebo, etc. (typically 10% of dwelling coverage).
- Personal Property — Furniture, clothing, electronics, appliances — on and off premises (usually 50–70% of dwelling).
- Loss of Use / Additional Living Expenses — Hotel stays, food, etc., while your home is unlivable.
- Personal Liability — Lawsuits if someone is injured on your property or you damage their property.
- Medical Payments — Covers minor medical bills for guests injured on your property (including dog bites).
Important: Policies cover named perils. Flood and earthquake are almost always excluded and need separate policies.
Why Are Homeowners Insurance Rates Rising in Ohio?
Rates have increased due to:
- Skyrocketing construction and labor costs
- More frequent severe weather (wind, hail, winter storms)
- Roof age and home maintenance issues
- Claims history and insurance score
Good news: As independents, we can compare options and help you qualify for discounts (multi-policy, claim-free, security systems, new roof, etc.). Raising your deductible or shopping annually can also save money.
Do I need to add endorsements to my home owner policy?
Not all are necassary but there are a few common gaps & dndorsements you should consider
- Sewer/Drain Backup (very common in Ohio)
- Equipment Breakdown (HVAC, appliances)
- Ordinance or Law (code upgrade costs after a loss)
- Inflation Guard / Extended Replacement Cost (to fight underinsurance)
- Valuables Rider (jewelry, guns, art — standard limits are low)
- Umbrella Liability (extra protection for $1M+)
We’ll review your home’s specifics (roof age, construction, pool, dogs, home business, etc.) and recommend the right add-ons.
Does my current home insurance policy cover floods?
Even outside high-risk zones, flood coverage is separate. Many homeowners are surprised after heavy rains.
What if I have a pool, trampoline, or certain dog breeds?
These can affect rates or eligibility. We’ll find carriers that work with your situation.
Should coverage be based on my home’s market value?
No. Base dwelling coverage on current rebuild cost, not purchase price or market value.
How often should I review my policy?
At least annually, or after major renovations, additions, or purchases.
