Summer time is here! Schools are letting out, the pools are open, and that means for many, it’s time to take a vacation. Vacations are a time to live without stress, and for many, focusing on making it stress free has the opposite effect. No one is immune to sicknesses/infections, injuries, or accidents while they’re on vacation. So while it would be nice to be 100% sure absolutely nothing is going to happen on your trip, it’s probably not the best idea. Here are a few things you can do to ensure that you’ll be prepared for anything that may happen on your summer vacation.
1. Pack a First Aid Kit
Make sure it’s stocked up too. It’s important to have bandages, Neosporin, and tape/gauze for larger cuts. If the water isn’t sanitary, saline solution is a good thing to use to wash your cuts. It’s also important for your kit to include hydrocortisone cream, Benadryl, imodium, and any prescription medication you or your group may have.
2. Check Your Health Insurance
Depending on where you’re traveling, you may not be covered. Not all medical insurance covers in locations abroad. So if you’re traveling outside the country, get in touch with your agent and go over any exclusions you may have.
3. Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen!
Prevention Magazine suggests packing two bottles of sunscreen per person on your trip. You should be coating yourself with sunscreen every two hours, and apply more than you think you should. While many like to tan for the look of it, keep in mind that in the long run tanning causes wrinkles and age spots.
4. Eat Smart!
Vacations are about splurging some, but don’t take it too far. You don’t want to ruin your vacation because you got sick from eating something too rich, too unique, or just from eating too much. While it’s fun to live a little outside the box while on vacation, just be careful. Your digestive system and your wardrobe will thank you.
5. Stay Active!
What’s the point in going on a vacation if you’re going to stay in the room the whole time? Get out and enjoy the scenery. Go out for a run in the morning. Do an adventurous activity such as kayaking. Pack adequate shoes and clothing so that you can accomplish these things while on your trip.
Prevention Magazine has these, along with so many more tips to make sure that you have the best, most drama-free vacation you can have. Happy reading, and happy travels!
